Your Concerns, Our Action: Cycle Enforcement in Kentish Town |
||||
Your local Safer Neighbourhood Teams carried out a cycle enforcement operation on Kentish Town Road at the junction of Leighton Road.Ward PCSOs from Kentish Town North and South, supported by colleagues from other Camden wards alongside four Police Constables, were out ensuring cyclists were complying with the law and keeping our roads safe for everyone. This operation was a direct response to concerns raised at our quarterly ward panel meetings, where residents and councillors highlighted an increase in: · Cyclists failing to stop at red traffic lights, which is an offence under Section 36 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016 · Cycling on the pavement, which is prohibited under Section 72 of the Highways Act 1835 It was clear that these concerns are widely shared. Throughout the operation, many members of the public stopped to speak with officers and expressed their support for proactive enforcement.
The operation resulted in over £1,000 in fines being issued.
Cycling Offences - did you know?Some lesser-known cycling offences include: · Cycling without lights during hours of darkness · Failing to comply with traffic signs (including one-way systems) · Using a mobile phone while cycling if it affects proper control · Cycling in a dangerous, careless or inconsiderate manner Cyclists are classed as road users and are expected to follow the same traffic rules designed to keep everyone safe.
